About This Species
Reaching 5.3m+ in length with distinctive large, spatulate teeth in males that can grow extremely large and converge, potentially restricting mouth opening. Dark grey to black coloration with light ventral sides, found in cool temperate waters of North Pacific from Bering Sea to California and Japan. Feeds primarily on deep-water squid and some fish, with evidence of commercial fishing interactions in Japan.
