About This Species

Reaching lengths of 14.5-21 feet and found in deep warm temperate waters of the North Atlantic and other areas including Southern Hemisphere locations. Distinguished from similar species by pale coloration across the melon and lack of defined dorsal stripe. Males have visible teeth erupting from the lower jaw. Like other beaked whales, they are deep divers feeding primarily on squid and are considered cryptic and skittish, making field identification challenging.
