About This Species
One of the smallest beaked whales at 4.2-4.4m length, with dark greyish-brown coloration dorsally and pale grey ventrally. Males have small triangular teeth near the tip of the lower jaw. Found in cold temperate waters of the Southern Hemisphere (35-55°S), preferring deep oceanic waters and feeding primarily on squid. Information is limited due to very few confirmed sightings and mostly known from strandings.
