About This Species

Recently split from True's beaked whale based on morphological and genomic evidence, found in Southern Hemisphere waters. Similar to M. mirus but genetically and morphologically distinct. Reaches similar lengths of 4.5-5.5m and shows typical mesoplodont characteristics. Limited information available due to recent taxonomic recognition and cryptic nature of the species.
