About This Species
Poorly known species measuring 4-5m, known only from strandings in Southern Hemisphere (New Zealand, Australia, Macquarie Island, Falklands, Tristan da Cunha). Distinguished by robust body, peculiar lower jaw that rises significantly midway with teeth extending over rostrum, and sometimes shows light patches on head sides. Never observed alive in wild.
