About This Species
First beaked whale species discovered, measuring 4-5.5m and found in deep North Atlantic waters. Known as 'North Atlantic beaked whale,' with males having two prominent teeth erupting from lower jaw tip. Inhabits cold temperate and subarctic waters, occasionally observed near ice pack. Shows typical mesoplodont scarring from intraspecific fighting in males.
