About This Species

Medium-sized beaked whale (5-6.5m, up to 7.7m maximum) with widespread distribution across tropical and subtropical Indian and Pacific Ocean waters. Features distinct beak with protruding lower jaw, large triangular dorsal fin, and bulbous melon. One of the rarest beaked whales until recently, now known from multiple sightings in large groups of 10-100 individuals.
