About This Species

One of the most critically endangered large whales, reaching 14m (45ft) and 45-54 tons, with a distinctive stocky black body, strongly arched jawline, and prominent white callosities on the head. Found exclusively in North Atlantic coastal waters, migrating between Labrador Sea feeding grounds and Georgia/Florida calving areas. Known for slow surface-skimming feeding on copepods, with fewer than 250 mature individuals remaining.
