About This Species
Medium-sized Arctic cetacean (3-5.5m length, 400-1,500kg) known as the 'white whale' and 'sea canary.' Adults are uniformly white with distinctive bulbous forehead (melon) and no dorsal fin. Highly social, forming pods of 10-25 individuals that communicate using diverse vocalizations. Feeds primarily on fish, squid, and crustaceans in Arctic and subarctic waters.
