About This Species

The second-largest whale species reaching up to 26m (85ft) and 77-81 tons, distinguished by their asymmetrical coloration with white on the right side of the head and dark on the left. Found in all major oceans from polar to tropical waters, known as the fastest baleen whale capable of 23 mph. Populations have roughly doubled since the 1970s following whaling bans.
