Slightly larger than common minke whales at up to 10.7m (35ft), found primarily in Southern Hemisphere waters particularly around Antarctica. Distinguished from common minke whales by size, distribution, and subtle morphological differences. Population estimated over 500,000 individuals but some evidence of decline since the 1970s.
