About This Species

Very similar to Baird's beaked whale but slightly smaller (8.5-9.75m vs 9.1-11.1m) and found in Southern Hemisphere waters from Antarctica to about 34°S. Inhabits deep oceanic waters but occasionally seen in shallower coastal areas and near sea ice. Lives in small groups and dives to extreme depths.
